It offends the heck out of me. It offends me for a lot more reasons though. It offends me because the language is offensive. Moreso because it’s coming from our 14 year old daughter. It’s her cover photo for her Twitter account. It offends me even more because I can’t say anything about it. My hands are tied. I can’t do what a normal, healthy, involved parent would do and tell her that it is offensive, that it is inappropriate and that it sends the wrong message about a beautiful young lady. I can’t tell her that she can do better because she is better than that. In short, I can’t be a parent to her. The tragedy is that this is a time when she needs a parent the most. Tammy and I have been monitoring her social media, like any good parent would. Yet we are unable to do anything about some of the disturbing behavior we have observed on her pages: her choice of friends, exposure to drug and alcohol use, or her emotionally abusive relationship with a boy that Christy, to this day, denies she is involved with. There is so much of this type of thing on her social media that one might wonder what the hell her parents are thinking by allowing it?
